Come and Abandon Reality.

Online since 1996. The staff are long gone and Ellandor is quiet now, but the server is still up, the world is still whole, and the help files are still where you left them. If you played here, the door is unlocked.

A note

Be aware, the admins have generally all moved on years ago, and nobody is running quests or grading notes. I keep the server up and this page standing so that anyone who spent a few years of their life in Ellandor can come back and walk around it. I can be reached at xholan@gmail.com.

The background story

Once upon a time, Ellandor had two moons.

Time before The Shattering is a mystery for the most part. People speak of it as a lost paradise — a time of innocence when the gods walked the world like men and all creatures lived in harmony. Cities of shining marble and gold, temples that reached the sky, bountiful harvests for all. Most of it is little more than a fanciful story, told to children at night. In truth nobody is left alive from before The Shattering, save the gods, and if they know, they do not tell.

Only one moon still remains. The second was said to be made of crystal, orbiting so low that tides could be doubled and tripled. There are still paintings in caves of the crystal moon above a great smoking mountain.

The Shattering

A volcano known as Wound, holding the equivalent of an entire sea of lava, exploded on the night of a triple eclipse. The geyser of fire rose so high it struck the fragile crystal moon, lying uncommonly low in orbit. A great cloud of dust rose from Wound to cover the sky.

The darkness lasted a few hundred years — bitter winters, burning summers, tectonics that reshaped continents and killed hundreds of thousands. Several species mutated in the wild magic of the moons: goblins, trolls and orcs, twisted from their former beautiful shapes into creatures of hate and darkness.

Creating a character

Ten races, eight classes, and a name you'll answer to for years.

Names should be made up, one word, and hold no similarity to nouns, verbs or vulgarities. This is a medieval fantasy roleplay world and your name is the first thing anyone reads about you — nicknames can bend those rules, real names can't.

First time here? Choose human. Humans have mastery of Ellandor's common tongue, which is the language other players will answer your questions in — useful, when you're the one asking. Warrior and thief are the easiest classes to begin with.

Organizations

In any society, people with common interests form a club. Ours have code support.

An official organization needed a background detailing the events that led to its founding, a charter, and at least four members above level twenty-five. No rooms were provided — you bought those at the weekly property auctions. Uniforms, insignia, ranks and promotions earned in combat all came with the code.

They had to stay active or they were disbanded. Most of these are quiet now, but the code that ran them is still loaded, and the charters are still in the archive.

Getting back in

Your old character is probably still in there.

Accounts and characters were never wiped. Log in with the name you used and see what happens — if the password is gone with the rest of the decade, make a new one; nobody is checking. The Academy still runs for anyone who never played.

And the directions never changed: north, south, east, west, up, down. Nothing diagonal, and look still works the way it always did.
